Frequently Asked Questions
We have tried to answer the most commonly asked questions below. If you have any further enquiries, please use the form under the 'Contact Us' tab.
What are the minimum and maximum numbers of children that you can care for?
At present, we start our care with groups of minimum 5 children. Our maximum number depends on staffing availability, and the ages of the children. We will always do all that we can to meet your needs.
Where will the children be during the event?
We require a separate space to be arranged and provided for us. Spaces must meet the National Care Standards, as specified by the Scottish Government. Prior to each event, Wedding Crèchers Scotland will visit the venue to carry out a risk assessement, and ensure that the given space meets the standards.
How much do you charge?
Our main crèche service is aimed at groups of children, rather than one-to-one care. We generate a bespoke quote for each event, depending on the number of children, hours and staff required. Please note that there may be a small travel surcharge for events out-with Edinburgh. Please contact us with your event details, and we can provide you with a full quote.
We also offer a babysitting service for the later hours of your event. Again, please contact us for a bespoke quote for your personal event.
How can you ensure the safety of my child?
Your child will be supervised at all times by Wedding Crèchers Scotland staff. Prior to each event, staff will carry out a detailed risk assessment of the venue, and evacuation procedures are clearly marked, in positions for the children to see. When each child is left in our care, we ensure that we have emergency contact information for the parents/carers attending the event, as well as another contact not attending. We only allow parents to visit at pre-arranged times, to further ensure the safety of the children in our care.
What kind of activities do you offer?
We offer a variety of activities which cater to different age groups, including: art and crafts; individual and group games; musical activities; cake/biscuit decorating; board games; story telling; jigsaws; and free play, amongst others. Additional activities may also be available, depending on facilities. Wedding Crèchers Scotland will always ensure that activities are appropriate for the children in their care, taking allergies and abilities into consideration. Children are welcome to bring their own entertainment, however there will be plenty provided by the service. Please feel free to browse the pictures in our Gallery to see examples of the types of activities available.
Who be looking after my child?
Wedding Crèchers Scotland staff are fully qualified and experienced in working with children. Staff are required to be fully registered with the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme, and undergo thorough training and checks prior to working alongside the children.
What is the pick-up procedure?
At the beginning of our service, we will take a note of the person/s responsible for picking each child up at the end of the event. Please note that under Care Inspectorate regulations, we are unable to release a child into the care of an intoxicated parent/guardian. We reserve the right to use our professional judgement to assess this, and by law, are required to notify the local Social Services should this occur. Please refer to the Child Protection document in our 'Files tab for further information.
How far in advance do I need to confirm a booking?
Ideally, we would like confirmation of a booking 3 months before the event. This is in order to gather all the relevant information about each child, and to ensure that we are staffed appropriately. We will need full confirmation of each young guest a minimum of one month before the event.
Can you take extra children at the last minute?
Unfortunately, it is vital for us to know the number of children using the service prior to the event. We arrange appropriate staff members according to the number of children that we expect, and must meet the Care Inspectorate guidlines of the ratio of staff to children. We endeavour to meet the needs of each child using our service, and in order to do this, we gather essential information (including likes, dislikes, medical and contact information). As a result of this, we are unable to take last-minute additions.
How long can I leave my child in your care?
We offer packages covering all stages of the day, and we will arrange the specific times of our service directly with the client or wedding couple. In accordance with the Care Inspectorate's regulations, we are able to run our crèche service up until 10pm. If you require
Do you care for children with a disability?
We ask for information on each child prior to every event. Through this, we will be able to assess the suitability of our service. We do not currently hold specific qualifications which enable us to care for children with severe disabilities, however we will certainly do our best to accommodate every child and their needs.
Will I be able to see my child throughout the duration of your care?
In accordance with Child Protection regulations, we would require this to be pre-arranged. If it is necessary to see your child during our care (i.e. for breastfeeding, specific medication), please note your requirements on the registration form, and we can arrange this directly with you.
My child needs regular medication, are there procedures in place for this?
We will be able to administer certain types of medication, however if you have particular requirements, we may ask you to return at the appropriate time/s. Prior to every event, we ask for information regarding medication, so that we are able to fully prepare for each child's needs.
Do you supply food?
We do not supply any food throughout the day. We are regularly asked to supervise the children whilst eating the wedding breakfast, and generally this is provided by the venue. Prior to each event, we require information regarding allergies and dietary needs, and these are observed by each member of staff.
